Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Manjaro is the best distro I have ever used. I did quite a bit of distro hopping (Ubuntu X/K/L/MATE, Mint, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Elementary, Antergos, deepin) but I'm settling for Manjaro for good. Most of the good stuff comes from Arch, but Manjaro makes life easier: graphical installer with automatic harware detection, polished desktop environments with nice Maia theme (I use Plasma).

For me the biggest thing is how Manjaro (Arch) uses just 4 repos, and the Arch AUR and that's it. No need to add repos and then clean the distro clutter you've accumulated - absolutely awesome! Plus to date I haven't found a single program that is not in the repos/AUR - you can literaly install everything you need from the terminal, no need to open a browser and look for a "how to install ..." post, just search the repos with yaourt and you're done!

The compatibility with Arch also means that you can mostly use the Arch Wiki word for word which is also awesome!

So awesome work Arch guys and well done Manjaro!

Manjaro is generally a good distro, I've tested GNOME, LXQT and i3. they all work flawlessly. Extra brownie points for i3wm as that is one powerful and well presented window manager, the i3/config has been pre-configured to such a degree that its truly a thing of beauty, Manjaro's i3 is VERY easy to use when compared to other i3wm's as it has clear instructions and and clear/obvious settings that anyone can use, not forgetting the immense community for support.

The only negative thing I can say is: XFCE, not a fan. The compositor/effects are horrible, Xubuntu and Fedora do a much better job and everything with the latter feels well polished in comparison.

Using Manjaro 17 KDE spin.

I was looking for a distro for a Ryzen 7 build and while I typically keep going back to Mint, for this I wanted a 4.11 kernel with functioning NVIDIA drivers via the package manager.

Manjaro is pretty much exactly where I want to be vision-wise; I didn't have a lot of patience for Arch in the past, because while I like to work on my car, I don't necessarily want to build it starting with smelting the iron.

Manjaro is like Arch with the pointy edges sanded off; it's proving to be very solid, except for printing.

Downsides: Octopi isn't quite where other distros' package updaters are yet; I've had a crash or two, but that could easily be the BIOS which hasn't stabilized yet.

Would be a 9 if it weren't for the printing issue.
