Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view:
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "kdelibs" and "plasma-desktop" packages and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

For function I have never had any big problems with Rosa. It's theming is pleasant and not garish like some others. Missing some programs that I use often is what keeps from using this as my daily distro on the desktop but it is stable and responsive on all the hardware I've run it on. The Mandriva system tools rock! I have no idea why Arch and Debian never copied them. I also like that Rosa still produces 32 bit versions. Whether people like to admit it or not, there is still a lot of perfectly usable 32 bit hardware! Replacing good hardware like my laptop, 17" screen, full size keyboard, 2 GHz Centrino duo, 4 gig RAM etc. that works perfectly just because it is 32 bit is ridiculous! The distro makers who recognize this fact and keep producing 32 bit distros will win over users, especially with user friendly stable distros like Rosa!

KDE 4. Very nice, original, simple and stable distribution. Still had two years of support.

Rosa is one of the best I've used in a long time. It's clean, up to date and offers software some of the others don't. Like another mentioned it's one of the few that work on a Lenovo laptop with little to no issues out of the box. It's fast and smooth as well, more so than a lot of the Deb based distros I've used in the past. The only con I can think of is the webcam doesn't work but I never use it and that really isn't the fault of the OS but rather the obscure parts Lenovo seems to insist on using. It was troublesome to get it to work under any OS, Win, Linux or otherwise. All in all I have no complaints and love every moment of getting to use it. It stays out of the way and lets me get things done.
